Introduction to Nosework (Open to the Public)

6 Week Introduction to Nosework
Wednesday 6:30 PM, Arpril 3 - May 8, 2013, First Congregational Church of Oakland, Oakland,CA

Orinda, Lafayette, concord, walnut creek, Alamo dog training

This is a special 6 week introductory Nosework Class open to the Public. Nosework is a relatively new dog activity and sport that is gaining more and more popularity. It is based on search and rescue and tracking sports but geared to the general public and pet dogs rather than working dogs. Any dog can do this acitivity and it uses the dog's most powerful sense, smell. You do not have to want to compete in this sport to enjoy it at home. It does not take a lot of equipment and can be enjoyed all year around. It helps build confidence in shy and fearful dogs and is both fun for the dog and the owner.

Though dogs should be behaved and controllable, they do not have to have perfect obedience skills to participate. If you have questions about your dog please email me.

Introduction to Tricks Class

6 Week Tricks Class (Open to the Public)
Wednesday 6:30 PM, June 26th - August 7th (Skip July 24th), First Congregational Church of Oakland, Oakland,CA

Orinda, Lafayette, concord, walnut creek, Alamo dog training

This is an introductory class open to the Public. Why teach your dog tricks? The main reason is to have fun with your dog. While we want a well behaved dog, tricks training can help you find other outlets for your dog other than Obedience Training and unwanted behavior. Trick training can help open up new ways to communicate with your dog and strengthen your bond while having fun. Tricks can also build confidence for those dogs that are shy and fearful and help them learn other skills that are beneficial. Tricks can also be used to give your dog an alternative behavior when he is doing something undesireable. Tricks can act as an outlet for the dog who has too much energy. And of course, there is the vanity part; "Look what my dog can do". Showing your dog off to friends can be a lot of fun.

Some of the tricks that we will teach are sit pretty, bow, spin, weave, roll over, high five, and more.

Each participant must have a Leash, a Place Board, treats and a treat bag. Place Boards can be purchased from The Dog Squad. Go to Dog Squad On-Line Store
