Oakland Training Blog – Dog training is really owner training!
Our dog training actually involves training you, the owner, how to become the trainer yourself. Whether or not you can understand or accept it, much of your dog’s bad behavior has been reinforced by you over time. The Dog Squad’s goal is to teach you how to get out of the negative cycles you’re in with your dog, and give you a better understanding of the relationship that a dog and owner should have.
While working with a Washington DC dog trainer, we talked about how just like a child learns from its parents, your dog learns from you. When your dog is unsure about what to do because of poor instruction or lack of rules and boundaries they get anxiety—which is the prime cause of most all behavioral problems. Dogs are pack animals and need a leader. When your dog looks to you for direction you need to know what direction is the best to give, that’s where our training comes in! We can teach you how to be the leader your dog needs; everything pretty much falls into place after that.
Our in-home training is so effective because we can assess your situation specifically and get to the heart of your issues with your dog. We conduct a lesson, then leave you with “homework” consisting of various training exercises to work on until we meet again. When you work with your dog enough, and in the correct way, they’ll begin to understand that you’re in charge. They’ll look to you for direction instead of getting stressed about not knowing what to do in a given situation.
Our Oakland dog training program is commitment-based, meaning we work with you continually until your confident enough to be the trainer yourself. We’re always ready to answer your questions and provide support. Our training is so effective that the only way it doesn’t work is if it isn’t implemented correctly. We train you in our method and make sure you stay on the right track. We’re ready to teach you a new skill that you’ll use for years to come!
